This is the second year of my taking Daily Photos and posting one to the Daily Photo gallery each day. The photo you see was taken the day it was posted ( with very few exceptions so far in the second year and no exceptions in the first year). The second year started on March 6, 2009.

You can see the year one gallery here: http://inourtime.smugmug.com/gallery/4468382_VLaHW/1/485853915_kBMcj

Storefront on 161st Street in the Bronx.

Hey, I just take the photos, don't ask me what it means.

Some rush and some look.

Silhouette sunset over Hoboken.

Thanks to everyone who made such gracious comments on yesterday's photo. I hardly ever get that many comments. I was quite surprised to see my photo in the number 2 spot of most popular dailies today. I think that's a first. Thanks again for your support! I know I don't make nearly as many comments as I should.

Steady light rain on a dark night.

Dicken's London redux.

I see scenes like this all the time but this guy was particularly pitiful. I don't want to exploit other's misery so I don't take photos of them.
(And there was that time the homeless guy spit in my face for taking a photo of his damn cart, not even a photo of him...but I digress....).

I picked this pic so no one is identifiable. Plus, it adds to the scene, making it literally jarring.

Rain slicked stairs.

It was a chilly, windy, rainy day.
InOurTime > Veteran's Day 2009 Daily Photo.

Brooklyn World War II Memorial.

The inscription reads

                           " THIS MEMORIAL DEDICATED
TO THE HEROIC MEN AND WOMEN OF THE BOROUGH OF BROOKLYN
WHO FOUGHT FOR LIBERTY IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1941-1945
AND ESPEICALLY TO THOSE WHO SUFFERED AND DIED
MAY THEIR SACRIFICE INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS
                       AND LEAD TO UNIVERSAL PEACE"

I was going to post a close up but then realized this view better depicted the scale of the Memorial and the flagstaffs ( at half staff ).

The Memorial is actually a building for Veteran's use, not just a wall.

Somehow the young men playing in the field seemed appropriate. The men who fought and those who died were not much older.

Thanks for all of the comments on yesterday's photo. I don't get to comment on other's photos as much as I would like, but I do often give a quick thumbs up to many of your photos. I don't know how some of you manage to comment as much as you do. I sure like getting comments though and I appreciate every one! And I really like the comments that tell me how to do something better or different.

The White Horse Tavern, Hudson Street, across from Abdingdon Square, Manhattan.

On November 3, 1953 Dylan Thomas sallied forth from the White Horse to the Chelsea Hotel where he told a friend he had just had 18 straight whiskies. The next day he became very ill and was admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital very early on November 5th, where he died of pneumonia on November 9th. He had just turned 39 on October 27th.

"Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night."

Do not go gently into that good night, Dylan Thomas
